FAQ

Do I need a new inverter?

No. The gateway clips onto almost any inverter or battery made since 2015 and talks to it over the wire it already has.

No. If your inverter or battery was made in 2015 or later it almost certainly has a standard data port, and that is all the gateway needs.

What the gateway plugs into

  • String and micro inverters — SunPower, Enphase, SolarEdge, Fronius, SMA, Growatt and most others expose a Modbus or Ethernet port. The gateway uses that.
  • Home batteries — Tesla Powerwall, Enphase IQ, LG RESU, sonnen and similar all report state of charge and output over the same kind of link.
  • EV chargers — any charger that supports bidirectional charging (V2H or V2G) can be read the same way.

What if mine is older?

Inverters from before 2015 sometimes lack a data port. In that case we ship a clamp meter instead of the gateway. It reads the current on your export cable and does the same job, though it cannot read battery state of charge.

You never need to replace working equipment to sell from it.
